Of the 183 patients who received the operation due to cleft lip & palate from March 1986 to July 1992, we have obtained the results as follows by the analysis of the interrelationship between the incidence and the blood type of _he patients & their parents.
The number of patients of each blood type was as follows ; A(81/183, 44.3%), B(36/183, 19. 7%), AB(27/183,14.8%). 0(39/183,21.3%), of maternal blood type was A(84/168,50.0%), B (24/168,14.3%), AB(21/168, 12.5%), 0(39/168,22.6%), and of paternal blood type was A(24 /135,17.8%), B(30/135,22.2%), AB(39/135,28.8%), 0(42/135,42%).
The incidence of cleft lip & palate was higher in blood type A patients(81/183,44.3%), blood type A mothers (84/168,50.0%) and blood type 0¢¥ fathers (42/135,42%) but there was no correlation between the patient¢¥s blood type and parents¢¥ blood type.
